Latest Updates on GRI Standards

Organisations can benefit from more consistent reporting of their sustainability initiatives and progress thanks to the end of the transition period for Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI’s) Sustainability Reporting Standards.

Replacing the previous GRI G4 Guidelines, which were phased out on July 1, the GRI Standards represent global best practice for reporting on a range of economic, environmental and social impacts – and are now the only way for organisations to use the GRI framework for sustainability reporting.

In addition, as part of their programme of continuous improvement, GRI have now revised the first two Standards; GRI 303: Water and Effluents and GRI 403: Occupational Health and Safety to align with international best practice and recent developments in water stewardship and occupational health and safety management and reporting.

Supporting your transition

While the formal transition period has now come to a close, many companies are still yet to align their disclosures with the GRI Standards for the 2018 reporting year. Bureau Veritas’s dedicated sustainability team is already working with clients to help align their reporting with the GRI Standards and understand their material areas for disclosure.

More information on the updates to the Standards is also available through the GRI, thanks to a series of webinars:

GRI 303: Water and Effluents on September 11

GRI 403: OHS on October 11

Aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals

In July, during the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (July 9-18), GRI released its second publication on its collaboration with the UN Global Compact for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) reporting. With this document, GRI looks to provide practical guidance to companies on how to report their contributions to the SDGs. It follows the Analysis of the Goals and Targets, released to the public last year.
